Estate Kit Launches In Canada to Close the Estate Readiness Gap, Backed by Industry-Leading Partnerships

Ten years ago, my dad was being wheeled into brain surgery. He grabbed my arm and said, "If this goes sideways, you're my decision-maker on everything."

I froze. I worked in high finance. He was a retired tax lawyer. Between us we had every advantage, and standing in that hallway, we had nothing to go on. He had never told me where anything was. Not his accounts, not his health wishes, not his passwords, not a single instruction for the life I would have had to manage without him.

Fortunately, the surgery went well. We got lucky.

Thousands of Canadian families every day are not. After a loved one dies or becomes incapacitated, they are sent on a scavenger hunt that drags on for months. There is no guide telling them where things are or what their loved one wanted, just frozen accounts, locked phones, and paperwork no one knew existed.

That is the gap we built Estate Kit to close.

Where There's a Will, There's a Woe... Until Now.

Estate readiness is distinct from estate planning. A Will tells your family what you want done with your estate. It does not tell them what the estate contains, where to find it, what wishes live beyond the legal documents, or how to navigate the months of paperwork that follow.

Even with a Will in place, loved ones are too often left piecing together a life from locked accounts and scattered records at the worst possible time.

Estate Kit fixes that. We pair a secure digital vault with a physical organizer, so families can keep the practical details in one trusted place: documents, accounts, insurance information, passwords, important contacts, and final wishes. The right people get the right information at the right time.

The Morning After No One Prepares For

When someone dies less than fully prepared, and most Canadians do, the estate turns into something like a small business with high legal exposure, handed to grieving family members who have never done it before.

What follows is predictable. Banks freeze accounts and cut off the cash needed for immediate expenses. Two-factor authentication and locked devices put an entire digital life out of reach. And the search begins for accounts, policies, and documents no one knew existed, a search that can stretch on for months. Along the way, real value is lost to administrative errors, missed tax deadlines, and fees that were never necessary.

This is bigger than any single family. Over the next 10 to 20 years, an estimated $1 trillion will pass between generations in Canada, the largest transfer of wealth in our history. Far too much of it will move as a disorganized tangle instead of an orderly legacy, and the cost is measured in lost dollars, lost time, and relationships strained by decisions no one left instructions for.

We built Estate Kit so Canadians can hand their loved ones a plan to step in with confidence and honour their wishes, instead of a scavenger hunt.

Estate Kit is CARP Approved

Estate Kit arrives as a CARP (Canadian Association of Retired Persons) Approved partner, which makes our platform available to the more than 250,000 members of CARP, Canada's largest non-partisan advocacy association for older adults, retirees, and Canadians aged 45 and over.

CARP members receive 20% off Estate Kit, plus an additional 15% when they purchase multiple kits.

They can also start with our free Estate Readiness Assessment, an educational tool that shows them how prepared they truly are and where the gaps lie.

From Will to Ready, With Willful

We're also partnering with Willful, Canada’s leading online Will platform that has helped hundreds of thousands of Canadians create legally-valid Wills and Powers of Attorney quickly and affordably, in as little as 20 minutes.

Together we cover complementary halves of the same problem. Willful provides the fast, lawyer-approved online Wills and Powers of Attorney. Estate Kit provides a secure, trusted place to organize, store, and share everything your family needs to act on them. It's the difference between a fragmented patchwork of documents and a single source of truth for the people you love.

Estate Kit customers can add a Willful plan directly at checkout and automatically save 20%, with no codes or extra steps.

Give Your Family Clarity, Not Chaos

I built this for the version of me standing in that hospital hallway ten years ago. No family should have to learn what they're missing in the middle of the worst week of their lives.

Estate readiness isn't about planning for death. It's about sparing the people you love a scavenger hunt, and leaving them something better: a clear place to turn, the answers they'll need, and the room to grieve instead of dig.
